NCSS Content Standards:
3.e. Locate and describe varying land forms and geographic features, such as mountains, plateaus, islands, rain forests, deserts, and oceans, and explain their relationships within the ecosystem.
3f. Describe system changes such as seasons, climate and weather, and the water cycle and identify geographic patterns associated with them.

 

Place is defined in two ways:

 

1.  Physical Characteristics - anything made by nature.  For example, rivers, lakes (not man-made), mountains and climate are all physical characteristics.

 

 

Using the map above, list 5 physical features of the United States on a sheet of paper.

 

2.  Human Characteristics - anything man-made such as buildings, bridges, languages and others.
